NMSU Extension Horticulture Specialist Marisa Thomson will speak about Native Plants for Exciting New Mexico Gardens, during a Zoom presentation at 7 p.m., Thursday May 6. To register, go to https://zoom.us/meeting/register/tJIrdu-prj8jGNHQma0LRNBcsrdVEk-Sqql1
Gardening in New Mexico can be tough. You can make it easier by incorporating native plant species that thrive in our conditions. Marisa Thomson will present on how to select, care for, and integrate native plants into your garden and landscape. Marisa Thomson is responsible for active Cooperative Extension and research programs supporting sustainable horticulture. In addition to studying landscape mulches for improved perennial plant root establishment and tomato-growing practices that reduce disease pressures while increasing water conservation, her research includes abiotic plant stressors like wind, cold, heat, drought, and soil compaction. She writes a weekly gardening column, Southwest Yard & Garden. Readers can access the column archives and other resources at https://desertblooms.nmsu.edu. Find her on social media @NMdesertblooms.
This presentation is the third in “Growing Together,” a gardening and seed saving series, organized by Los Alamos History Museum, Los Alamos Public Library System and Pajarito Environmental Education Center. Learn more HERE about the upcoming events in the series.
