American Legion And Elks Lodge To Stand Watch At Guaje Pines Cemetery Monday From Sunrise To Sunset

Memorial Day
COMMUNITY NEWS

The community is invited to visit the Guaje Pines Cemetery between sunrise and sunset Monday to commemorate all those who have died in active military service.

Members of the Elks Lodge, the American Legion and others will stand watch with the American flag from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Participants and spectators are asked to bring masks and to practice social distancing while at the cemetery.

At 3 p.m., in unity with communities throughout the country, Taps will be played.

The retiring of the colors will occur close to 8 p.m. at around sunset. Elks Lodge and American Legion members will drive in procession to their individual facilities at that time.

In addition, some cadets from the Los Alamos High School NJROTC unit are holding a brief flag ceremony at Ashley Pond Park at 11 a.m. that is not sponsored by LAHS. The cadets are expected to join the Guaje Pines event afterwards.

The Los Alamos Reporter only received notice of both these events on Sunday evening.
