COUNTY NEWS RELEASE
Los Alamos County and the City of Española are excited to partner together to provide indoor swimming this winter at the Lucero Center Pool.
Beginning Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026, the Lucero Center Pool (313 Paseo de Oñate, Española, NM 87532) will be open 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. with Los Alamos County staff on site on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. All Los Alamos County Aquatic Center passholders can swim at the Lucero Center free of charge when you show your pass. There are six swimming lanes available. Swimmers may contact the Lucero Center at 505-747-6050 or visit the Lucero Center’s page to check the schedule.
Please note that the Lucero Center will be closed Nov. 9 – 16 for the installation of new flooring. Check the status of the Lucero Center on the Closures & operational changes section of the County’s Alerts & current conditions page.
Meanwhile, the Leisure Lagoon will continue to provide fitness classes, swim lessons, and general aquatic recreation Monday – Saturday. Check the Aquatic Center page for schedules.
This intergovernmental partnership was made possible by a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that allows Los Alamos County lifeguards to assist with staffing the pool three days a week, until Jan. 15, 2027. This MOU provides an indoor swimming option for regional residents while renovations and maintenance of the Olympic pool at the Larry R. Walkup Aquatic Center continue and is scheduled for completion by mid-January. Check the project page for the latest updates.
