Los Alamos
I enthusiastically support David Hampton for Los Alamos County Council, and encourage you to vote for him in the upcoming election.
David’s service record speaks for itself. He has served board roles for several local nonprofit organizations, has been on many County boards, and volunteers wherever he can make a difference in our region. He was elected to our local UNM branch’s Advisory Board where I have had the privilege of serving with him, and he consistently raises the level of conversation to tackle big picture concerns regarding budgets and student outcomes. I also appreciate David’s particular attention to the environment and sustainability, which are at the forefront of my generation’s thoughts as we experience high gas prices and accelerating climate change.
I met David nearly as soon as I moved to Los Alamos when he attended a community event I was at; this is a story I’m sure many of you share. The man is an enigma, seemingly in threedifferent places at once and always ready with a thoughtful question or insightful idea to share.
David and his wife Lisa have been kind to me and my wife Brenna, and have shepherded us and other young people on how to get involved in local politics because they think our voices are important. David listens to everybody who takes the time to speak with him, and he cares about what they say as well.
Possibly because of his generosity with his time, David is the most knowledgeable individual I have ever met when it comes to Los Alamos County’s complicated operations. If I am ever unsure of how a funding mechanism works or why a seemingly innocuous statement matters, I come to David (as you may know, he attends every Council meeting). He is always patient to explain how the various threads are connected, and eager to hear what he might not have considered. I am certain that he would take this particular talent forward into his time on Council.
If political alignment boils down to how we think a society should operate, David has presented a theory of local government whose role is to sustain a community filled with small businesses and nonprofits, a vibrant arts and culture scene, and healthy individuals. I encourage you to vote for David Hampton on or before Nov. 3rd .
