Los Alamos County Environmental Services announces a temporary restriction on accepting large loads of waste at the Eco Station due to weather-related conditions at the landfill receiving the County’s municipal solid waste.
Recent heavy rainfall has resulted in slick, muddy conditions at the landfill, which limits the safe movement of heavy equipment and transport vehicles within the disposal area. As a result, the landfill has temporarily restricted certain types of equipment and trailers from entering or accessing portions of the facility as a safety precaution.
The Eco Station operates as a transfer station, where municipal solid waste is loaded into transport trailers and hauled to an approved landfill for final disposal. Because of the current landfill restrictions, the remaining available trailer capacity must be maintained to support essential solid waste collection services, including regularly scheduled residential and commercial collection routes. As a result, the Eco Station is currently unable to safely accept large-volume waste loads until normal disposal operations resume.
Until further notice, customers with large loads of waste are asked to postpone bringing those loads to the Eco Station. Regular services will resume as soon as landfill conditions improve, restrictions are lifted, and the County is able to resume normal transportation and disposal operations.
This temporary restriction is necessary to prevent waste from accumulating beyond the Eco Station’s safe operating capacity and to protect County employees, commercial haulers, and landfill personnel.
