The Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) will host its annual PEEC Nature Youth Group Kick‑Off Meeting, 7-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 23 at PEEC, welcoming both returning members and high schoolers interested in joining the program for the 2026–27 school year. Attendees will meet the team, learn about upcoming projects, and enjoy pizza during this informal gathering. Space is limited, first-come, first-serve; RSVP to center@peecnature.org.

Members advise PEEC staff, develop eco‐centric programs, and help shape exhibits and initiatives that reflect PEEC’s mission of enriching communities across Northern New Mexico by connecting people to our canyons, mesas, mountains, and skies. Throughout the year, youth participants engage in hands‐on environmental projects, collaborate with experts from Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) and other partners, and explore fieldwork, research, and analysis, including opportunities to use emerging AI‐supported tools. The program emphasizes leadership development, communication skills, and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all PEEC offerings.

It offers people of all ages a way to enrich their lives by strengthening their connections to our canyons, mesas, mountains, and skies. PEEC operates the Los Alamos Nature Center at 2600 Canyon Road, holds regular programs and events, and hosts several interest groups, from birding to hiking to butterfly watching.
