Poetry Takes Shape In New Show At Step Up Gallery

STEP UP GALLERY NEWS RELEASE

C Pirloul-Broshi is the architect and catalyst for the upcoming show in Step Up Gallery at Mesa Public Library. As a poet and visual artist Pirloul-Broshi is ideally positioned to bring together the elements in the exhibit: “WordArtWord: Starfabric Domes Spindle” opens Sept. 24, with an opening reception on Saturday, Sept. 26 from 2 to 3:30. At the reception, Pirloul-Broshi will be joined for an artists’ talk by poets Sawnie Morris and David Mutschlecner.

The exhibit will have more than 40 large-format panels and scrolls Pirloul-Broshi has created for her visual poem entitled “THIS THERE IS no submission process for”. Also in the exhibit are drawings and paintings by the late Brian Shields. Those artworks were the inspiration for ekphrastic poems by several prominent New Mexico poets.

Ekphrastic poetry is “a literary form where poets respond to visual art, creating a dialog between word and image.” Viewers will be able to hear the poems that have been inspired by the artwork by scanning a QR code.
