SANTA FE INTERNATIONAL HALF MARATHON NEWS RELEASE
Race organizers announced today that Sunday’s 5th Annual Capitol Ford Santa Fe International Half Marathon has reached maximum capacity and is completely sold out. With more than 400 participants locked in across all weekend events – including an impressive 34% draw of out-of-state athletes representing 30 different states – the course is primed for a historic turnout.
Because the event has reached full capacity, organizers emphasize that NO race-day or walk-up registration will be available at the start line tomorrow morning.
Tomorrow’s high-altitude lines will also feature a fierce but friendly community rivalry, as regional first responders face off in the 3-Amigos Relay division. Thanks to extensive coordination and outreach by Los Alamos County Fire Chief Erik Litzenberg, the public-safety division has secured a competitive field of six teams – 18 tactical and emergency personnel in three-member squads, drawn from five agencies – who will tackle the challenging 7,000-foot course to determine who takes home the coveted, traveling Public Safety Trophy.
This year’s public-safety starting grid:
– SANTA FE FIRE DEPARTMENT: The reigning champions, returning to active duty on the course to defend their title and keep the trophy at the station.
– SANTA FE COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENT: Fielding a highly focused, elite squad aiming to outperform their city counterparts.
– LOS ALAMOS FIRE DEPARTMENT: Traveling down the mountain to bring their high-altitude training to the competitive field.
– SANTA FE POLICE DEPARTMENT: Deploying a strong contingent determined to
secure the trophy for the precinct.
– SANTA FE FIRE ACADEMY: An energetic group of fresh recruits eager to test their grit, stamina, and teamwork against veteran first responders.
The 3-Amigos Relay joins hundreds of half marathon, 5K, and kids’ runners arriving from across the region and the country. Racing starts tomorrow (Sunday, September 20) at Romero’s Park in Agua Fria – wheelchair division 7:25 AM, Half Marathon and 3-Amigos Relay 7:30 AM – sending runners along the scenic Santa Fe River Trail corridor before culminating in a vibrant community celebration at the Reunity Resources Farm finish festival, 1829 San Ysidro Crossing.
Race founder Coach Kosgei captured the spirit of the grueling high-altitude environment: “This racecourse will for sure dance with your shadow, and time will tell.”
The Race Committee extends its deepest gratitude to the corporate and local sponsors whose generosity fuels this event, and to the Santa Fe Police Department and the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office for ensuring a secure, well-coordinated course. Special thanks are also due to the dedicated volunteers managing aid stations and logistics, the stewards of the Santa Fe River Trail, the historic Agua Fria community, and all local residents for graciously hosting this annual tradition.
Neighbors, families, and visitors are warmly invited to line the pathways tomorrow morning to cheer on the athletes and welcome the runners through the final miles. Roads into the start close at 7:00 AM – spectators should search “Romero Park, Santa Fe” in a maps app rather than a street address.
