Operational Update: Yesterday, the “Go” evacuation status on Camino de Cañon in Cundiyo was downgraded to “Set” due to increased containment along the western perimeter of the fire. Smoke conditions in the area have improved and the air quality is good on the Air Quality Index (AQI) with the decrease in fire activity. For current air-quality information in your community, visit fire.airnow.gov.
Over the last couple of days, fire activity has moderated, with creeping and smoldering fire behavior observed within the fire footprint. Conditions such as weather and terrain are factors that influence fire activity, along with the terrain where the fire is located. Even though fire activity has moderated, remaining areas of heat could flare up if conditions align.
Firefighters will work on the eastern end of the 306 Road, extending the contingency line to protect the community of Cordova, Truchas and other critical values at risk. Crews will reallocate equipment and supplies to where they can be more of use. Hotshot crews will access the southern fire edge and work directly along the fireline to construct handline, increase containment, and stop the fire’s spread. Retardant has been used tactically to slow fire spread where it provides the greatest operational advantage with the lowest environmental risk.
Medical teams especially trained for wildland fires are dedicated to the incident and are strategically positioned throughout the fire area to provide emergency medical treatment to personnel.
Weather: Today will be partly cloudy, there is a 40% chance of rain with scattered showers and thunderstorms. Temperatures will be between 85℉ and 90℉, with relative humidity between 17% to 24%. Winds will be from the west southwest at 7 to 10 mph with gusts up to 20 mph.
Evacuations: In Santa Fe County, Camino de Cañon is downgraded from “Go” status to “Set”. All of Cundiyo, Cerro Piñon, and the Borrego Mesa area—specifically near Forest Roads 440 and 306—are in “Set” status. Nambe Pueblo Lake remains in “Ready” status.
