Dear Los Alamos Public Schools Students, Families, and Staff,

Welcome back! I hope your summer was full of rest, adventure, and time with the people you love. As we get ready to start the new school year, I find myself genuinely excited for the year ahead! I am so proud of everything our students and staff accomplished together last year and know that this new school year holds great opportunity and possibility for everyone.

Our district strategic plan commits us to an important goal: that every single one of our students will thrive academically, emotionally, and as responsible members of our community. This is an important vision that we will continue to work towards because our students deserve nothing less. I am happy to report that we are seeing great progress with improvements in reading, math, and science proficiency this past year. We will be sharing those results with you soon and are working with staff to better understand how we can continue to improve our instruction and support for all students.

I know that LAPS will continue to grow and thrive because of the effort from the students in all of our schools, the incredible teachers showing up for them every day, and the families at home supporting their students. I am proud of the great staff that we have at LAPS and the strong partnerships we have developed with families. We will continue to work on improvement where we can to create the best learning spaces for children. We know that we are moving in the right direction, together.

As you prepare for the new school year, please keep these two simple things in mind that make a world of difference for your child: showing up and staying in touch.

Getting to school every day matters more than almost anything else. It’s how students build friendships, gain confidence, and keep their learning moving forward. We know life happens, including things like appointments, illness, or just the occasional slow morning. We ask that you help your child make it to school as consistently as you can, and let us know when something comes up.

Good communication is often the key to solving problems and setting students up for success. Please, stay connected with us! A quick note, email, or phone call  to your child’s teacher can solve a small worry before it becomes a big one. Our doors are always open. We have amazing teachers and staff at every school who are ready to help support the students in their care.

Thank you for trusting us with your children! This is a responsibility we don’t take lightly. It is going to be a wonderful 2026-2027 school year.
