Los Alamos County Councilors meeting in regular session Tuesday evening in White Rock, approved a proclamation declaring the month of May as “Mental Health Awareness Month” (Accepted by the Los Alamos County Health Council)
WHEREAS: May is nationally recognized as Mental Health Awareness Month and this year’s theme—More Good Days, Together—is at the heart of Los Alamos County Social Services Division and the Los Alamos County Health Council meeting people where they are, wholly supporting them, and understanding “good” is defined by their unique experience; and,
WHEREAS: stigma and misunderstanding continue to pose barriers to seeking help, though education and open conversations foster support and acceptance; and,
WHEREAS: mental health is essential to overall health and well-being, and all people experience times of difficulty and stress in their lives; and,
WHEREAS: Los Alamos County is home to dedicated professionals, advocates, and volunteers who promote mental wellness and provide care to those in need; and,
WHEREAS: local organizations and regional partners are leading the way with programs that support youth, adults, and families, including

Juvenile Justice Advisory Board
Los Alamos Family Council
Los Alamos Retired and Senior Organization
Los Alamos Family YMCA
Los Alamos Public Schools Prevention Specialists
Los Alamos Social Services Division and Health Council
Los Alamos Uniting for Community Health, and
Rio Arriba and Santa Fe counties.
NOW, THEREFORE, on behalf of the Council of the Incorporated County of Los “Mental Health Awareness Month” in Los Alamos County, and we call upon all community members to shine a light on mental health to reduce stigma, celebrate recovery, and encourage prioritizing mental well-being as much as physical health, by supporting More Good Days, Together.
