LARSO NEWS RELEASE
On Tuesday, May 5, 2026, the White Rock Senior Activity Center community gathered to celebrate a remarkable milestone: Martin Cooper’s 50th and final travelogue presentation. Over the years, Martin has taken us on unforgettable journeys to faraway places, sharing stories, culture, and breathtaking photography that brought the world into our dining hall.
For those who may not know Martin and his wife, Beverly, the Coopers are passionate world travelers and gifted photographers. Martin is especially known for his extraordinary wildlife photography, while Bev’s lens beautifully captures the lives and traditions of native peoples around the globe. This final presentation featured some of Martin’s favorite photographs and offered one last adventure across continents and cultures.
In the spirit of collective wellness and connection, Chef Keith at the White Rock Senior Activity Center complemented each travelogue with cuisine inspired by the featured destination. For this farewell presentation, guests enjoyed a globally inspired menu that included chicken enchiladas, Asian spring rolls, and concha, a traditional Mexican sweet bread.
“Martin has given us a great opportunity to share the world with our seniors through food and photos,” Chef Keith shared.
As Martin and Beverly prepare for their move from one “LA suburb” in New Mexico to another “LA suburb” in California, the Center wanted to honor them with a meaningful gift that reflected both their adventurous spirit and their love of wildlife. In lieu of a physical gift, a donation was made in their honor to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF)—a fitting tribute for a couple whose travels have inspired so many. In fact, during one unforgettable visit to a wildlife sanctuary managed by WWF, Martin was famously rescued by a guide from a herd of stampeding elephants!
Martin Cooper truly embodies the spirit of community. Though he has traveled the world and witnessed its many wonders, he always returned with a passion for sharing those experiences with others. Through storytelling, photography, and fellowship, Martin helped promote positive living for older adults by encouraging curiosity, lifelong learning, and social connection. While we will miss his adventures in our dining hall, the memories, inspiration, and joy he brought to our community will remain with us for years to come.
