Los Alamos National Laboratory began implementing a six-month external hiring initiative April 27 that will run through Oct. 30, 2026, sources tell the Los Alamos Reporter. The purpose of the initiative is to increase overall headcount and meet critical mission deliverables.
“During this period, regular, term, and craft employees will be restricted from applying to posted positions except Manager Level 4 and above roles to prioritize external hiring and reduce the need for backfill positions.
Students, postdocs and subcontractors are not impacted and may continue to apply to posted positions and undergo normal conversion. Internal hiring does not increase overall headcount and causes the need to backfill positions, which also duplicates hiring efforts.
