The LAPS School Board has selected Elisa Baker to fill the vacancy in district 1 which resulted from the resignation of former School Board member Dr. Margie Serrato. District 1 includes Piñon Elementary School. She will be sworn in at the start of the May 12 School Board meeting.

“The LAPS Board of Education welcomes Ms. Baker to the board to fill the vacancy in District 1,” said LAPS School Board President Sondra Wyman. “At the candidate forum held on April 6, 2026, Ms. Baker stated she is skilled at drilling down to the root cause of complex issues, which aligns with the board’s core values. She believes in student voice, and transparency with the community, among many other things. We are looking forward to serving together with Ms. Baker.”

“I look forward to working with the board and Superintendent Guy this coming year as we continue to advance the goals of our community and this school district,” Ms. Baker said. “I would like to thank the board for the vote of confidence, as well as thank all the members of my White Rock community who reached out with messages of support and encouragement.”

In her letter of interest Baker stated, “The attributes I bring to this position include an interest in balancing process and procedure, with actually making decisions and getting things done.”

Ms. Baker has been a resident of Los Alamos County for more than 20 years. She is employed in a leadership role with Los Alamos National Laboratory, and has a 3rd grader attending Piñon Elementary School.
