The public is invited to attend the14th annual Multicultural Festival, Around the World in White Rock, in the Piñon Elementary School gymnasium starting at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 5.

Presented jointly by Chamisa Elementary and Piñon Elementary Schools, the festival features dance, music, games, crafts and food tastings.

According to co-coordinators Andrea Lynch, Chamisa Elementary School art teacher, and Stephanie Rittner, Piñon Elementary art teacher, there are already a number of cultures that will be represented at the event including Brazil, Chile, Korea, France, India, Ireland, and Honduras.

There is still time for presenters to join in the festival. You can create a cultural display which can be interactive with food, crafts, games, trivia, etc., as well as a photographic display of your country/culture, and artifacts. One or two people will need to be present at the display during the fair. Please email co-coordinator Stephanie Rittner, Piñon Elementary School’s art teacher, at s.rittner@laschools.net.

Los Alamos High School Key Club members will be selling cotton candy, and the Hawaiian Ice truck will be on site selling Hawaiian ice, coffee and cocoa.

The event was started by teachers Renee Mitsunaga and Julie Bulthuis as a way to celebrate the diversity of Los Alamos county and the surrounding communities.

This event is free and open to the public.
