Join Los Alamos Historical Society As A Volunteer

HISTORICAL SOCIETY NEWS RELEASE

The Los Alamos Historical Society (LAHS) and its History Museum are seeking new volunteers for a variety of positions. A training will be held for new volunteers from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, in the Nambe Room on the second floor of Fuller Lodge. Lunch will be provided. Registration is required, and anyone high-school age and older is encouraged to attend. Please register by Nov. 2 by emailing volunteer@losalamoshistory.org.

Training will involve a modified walking tour, information from Archives and Collections, and specific training on visitor engagement and customer service in both the Guest Cottage Museum Shop and the Bethe House. This training is part of the Historical Society’s volunteer certification program, through which volunteers learn how to serve as docents in the Museum Shop and the historic Hans Bethe House or as tour guides.

Docents in the Los Alamos History Museum work two to four shifts a month, with shifts lasting from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. or 1-5 p.m. Tasks include: greeting and orienting visitors, answering questions about Los Alamos history and the community, and overseeing sales in the Museum Shop. Those working in the Hans Bethe House explain the community’s post-war history through the Harold Agnew Cold War Gallery. There are selective opportunities to volunteer in the Archive and Collections space, too.

For more information or to register, please email Volunteer Coordinator Kendra Parker at volunteer@losalamoshistory.org.
