Join the newly launched Samizdat Bookstore & Teahouse loyalty program and become a Worm for rewards, special offers, and more! The Bookworm Brigade works like a points system and a loyalty punch card rolled into one. Joining is simple, quick, and free! Just come into the store and fill out a membership card to become a (book) Worm.

The card has 6 “boxes” on the back. Each time you come in and make a purchase, your total (before tax) will be noted in one of the boxes. Once all 6 boxes are filled in, we add it all together and give you back 10% of the total as store credit. And once you’ve completed a card, just fill out a new one to keep getting rewards.

In short: come in 6 times, get 10% of your total spend back!

Of course, the main bonus is the opportunity to accumulate rewards for every dollar you spend in store. However, becoming a Worm comes with lots of other perks, too! 

Once you’ve filled out a full card, you’ll receive a special Samizdat cloth bag, handmade by local fiber artist Zandra Hall. Bring in the bag on special days like Small Business Saturday and get 20% off on anything you can fit inside. You can find local creators with a little yellow dot on the price sticker. That means you can spend $60, throw in a $4 sticker from a local artist, and get $128 in points.

Q: Will I get points for just buying a drink?

A: Yes! Any in-store purchase will count towards your rewards.

Q: Will I get points for making a special order?

A: Yes, when you pay for a special order you’ll get points as usual. You can also redeem your store credits on special orders. 

Q: Will I get points for buying a gift card?

A: Yes! You will get points for purchasing a gift card, but not if you are redeeming a gift card.

Q: How do the secret 20% off days work? 

A: After Small Business Saturday, special Worm days will be announced in the email newsletter. On those days, bring your bag and anything on our shelves that you can fit inside will be 20% off. Special orders, as well as food and drink, are excluded from this discount–please do not try to fit a drink in your bag. Anything we have on our shelves is fair game–and we have a huge variety of books, stationery, games, and more. Come in and browse, and discover all kinds of hidden gems in our inventory!

Q: Can I just buy the bag without being a member?

A: No, the bag is an exclusive reward for our beloved Worm family.

Q: What if I lose my card?

A: We know how hard keeping track of a million cards can be. Once you join the Bookworm Brigade, we’ll keep your card safe and organized for you in the store, so you never have to worry about losing it. 

Q: Why are we Worms?

A: We think it’s funny. Plus, Notes from the Underground just works so well with it. (You know, because “Underground” as in secret counter-culture, which is what Samizdat is all about. But also, “underground,” as in… worms. It’s funny.)
