Dr. Kelly Beierschmitt, Deputy Director for Operations of Los Alamos National Laboratory, has returned to Amarillo, Texas, his place of birth and where he began his career at the Pantex Plant.
Beierschmitt is now serving as president and general manager of the PanTeXas Deterrence LLC (PXD), which has received notice from DOE/NNSA to proceed with the Pantex Management & Operations Contract. Transition began Monday and will end Nov. 14.

Prior to joining LANL in 2018, Beierschmitt was previously the Deputy Laboratory Director for Science and Technology and Chief Research Officer at Idaho National Laboratory.

“We are very pleased that we’ve been awarded the Pantex contract by the NNSA, and we are looking forward to getting started on transition. We recognize there will be many important questions from the existing workforce and other stakeholders in the Amarillo area, and we anticipate launching an informational website and announcing our key managers shortly after transition begins. We look forward to engaging with employees and the community and getting started on our work at the site,” Heatherly Dukes, BWXT Technical Services Group President said Monday.

Dukes said he is proud that Beierschmitt will be the president and general manager for the contract noting that Beierschmitt began his career with 12 years of experience at Pantex.

“Throughout his more than 40 years of leadership experience at U.S. Department of Energy and NNSA facilities and laboratories, Kelly has proven his ability to achieve mission objectives in complex, high-hazard environments with multiple high-priority, concurrent missions. In his most recent position at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), Kelly led seven directorates responsible for a staff of over 8,800 and $3 billion in annual work execution,” Dukes said.

PXD’s parent companies (a BWX Technologies, Inc. subsidiary; Fluor; SOC, A Day & Zimmermann Company; and The Texas A&M University System) are joined by three pre-selected small business subcontractors: TechSource, Inc., Los Alamos Technical Associates, Inc., and Mission Assurance Alliance, which is a joint venture comprising Longenecker & Associates, Inc. and Paschal Solutions.
