Los Alamos High School (LAHS) French students competed in the national French competition, Le Grand Concours, receiving national recognition.
LAHS students Cecelia Pietryga (ranked 8th nationally), Tabitha Gelfand (ranked 9th nationally), Nailah Quartey (ranked 14th nationally), Uxue Sansinena (ranked 6th nationally), Irina Maiorov (ranked 10th nationally), Maddalena Mereghetti (ranked 10th nationally), and Kieran Gattiker (ranked 13th nationally), placed nationally in Levels 2A and 3A.
To rank nationally, students needed to place in the 75th percentile or above nationally for that level and division.
“I am very proud of these students and their accomplishments,” LAHS French teacher Louise Foliot said. “My French students are hardworking and dedicated to learning and mastering a second language.”
The National French Contest/Le Grand Concours is an annual competition sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French. This year’s Le Grand Concours attracted almost 45,000 French students.
Several students in Louise Foliot’s class ranked highly statewide.
