County: Canyon Road Closure Extended To June 7

COUNTY NEWS RELEASE

A segment of Canyon Road that is closed to through vehiculartraffic between the Jewish Center and 300 feet west of 15th Street (see attached map) will beextended through Friday, June 7. The Los Alamos County Public Works Department closed this section last week to ensure the traveling public’s safety and to facilitate the construction of aretaining wall for the Urban Trail Phase II and the installation of a water line for the future Canada Bonita Development.

The Los Alamos Nature Center (PEEC), Canyoncito Montessori School, The United Church, and the Jewish Center will remain accessible from Central Avenue. The Pueblo Canyon Trail Loop Trailhead will remain accessible from 15th Street. Canyon Road will remain open to bicycle and pedestrian traffic during this closure. The detour for vehicular traffic will be via Central Avenue to 15th Street in both directions.

Motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians are advised to use caution around construction activities and avoid entering the work zones. Construction hours are planned from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. Weekend work may be necessary if construction activities during the week are impacted by weather.
