LAPS Foundation Begins Search For New Executive Director

Los Alamos Public Schools Foundation (LAPSF) has begun the search for a new Executive Director, with the application period opening Wednesday, May 15, 2024. The current Executive Director, Jenny McCumber, will be transitioning to a new position at LAPSF and will remain a vital asset for the growing organization. Applications for the Executive Director position be accepted through June 15, 2024.

LAPSF is a leading non-profit organization in Los Alamos, dedicated to supporting the Los Alamos Public Schools by providing over $2 million in direct funding for LAPS teacher professional development and great idea grants, school projects and programs, alumni scholarships, and more. 

Following the dedicated work of McCumber, who has served LAPSF in the Executive Director role for four and a half years now, the organization is embarking on a new chapter of leadership and growth to further advance its mission and expand its reach within the school district. The Board of Directors expresses its profound gratitude to McCumber for her invaluable contributions, visionary leadership, and unwavering commitment to the Foundation’s mission.

“We are immensely thankful for Jenny and her exceptional leadership and the remarkable achievements we have accomplished under her guidance,” said Judy Bjarke, Chair of the Board of Directors, “We are glad she will be staying with us to help support the new Director and grow the Foundation from good to great.”

The new Executive Director will play a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of LAPSF, fostering collaboration with corporate donors, driving growth and sustainability, and advancing the organization’s impact in the schools and community.

“As we begin the search for a new Executive Director, we are seeking an individual who shares our passion for the Foundation’s mission and possesses the strategic acumen, creativity, and dedication to lead us into the future,” added Bjarke.

Key qualifications for the role include:

  • Proven leadership experience within the non-profit sector or relevant field
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategic plans
  • Strong financial management skills and experience in fundraising and resource development
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Passion for the Los Alamos Public School’s teachers and students, and their mission and vision to provide exceptional education
