The Kiwanis Club of Los Alamos is very thankful to the United Church Thrift Shop for their
generous donation of $3000 to the African Library Project (ALP).
The Women’s Christian Service Society operates the shop and acknowledged Kiwanian Sharon
Allen for her dedication and untiring efforts in making the ALP a success. On April 1, a truck
was loaded with 148 boxes containing 11,386 books (totaling approximately 3 tons), enough for
9 libraries, and then drove to New Orleans where they continued their journey by ship to Ghana
and Malawi.
The donation goes a long way in paying for the shipping costs for the project. If you are
interested in donating for future library shipments, go to https://losalamos.kiwanisone.org and
click on the African Library Project.
