COUNTY NEWS RELEASE

Members of the Los Alamos County Leadership Power Skills class were honored on their graduation day, February 27 in the Municipal Building Council Chambers. The class was a pilot program launched in spring 2023. The County added the six-week cohort program to complement the comprehensive range of existing employee development courses. The current class of graduates includes nine County employees from six different departments serving the community.

With a focus on essential leadership skills, the new Power Skills course instructs participants on effective communication, conflict resolution, delegation, and time management. Additionally, students learn valuable techniques for delivering coaching and feedback, as well as creating a culture of accountability within their respective departments.

Course instructors solicited valuable feedback from the new graduates to incorporate observations and insights into future iterations of the class, ensuring continuous improvement and relevance. The County also plans to expand its flagship LAC Leadership Academy into a comprehensive leadership development path consisting of multiple courses, one of which will be the new Power Skills Class.

The Leadership Power Skills graduates have demonstrated their dedication and commitment to personal and professional growth. Congratulations to Sobia Sayeda, Community Development Department; Joshua Silva, Yvonne Quintana, James Martinez, and JoAnn Gentry, Department of Public Utilities; Veronica Encinas; Community Services; Melissa Dadzie, Finance; Amy Danforth, Public Works; and Victoria DeVargas, Risk & Safety, for successfully completing the Leadership Power Skills Class.
