James Wernicke’s ‘The Power Of Gratitude’

BY RHETA MOAZZAMI

Thank you right back to James Wernicke for his Power of Gratitude list and comments of November 22. https://losalamosreporter.com/2023/11/22/the-power-of-gratitude/

I just wanted to add a few other benefits of gratitude.

From: The Wharton Alumni Club, author Linda Roszak Burton quotes Great Place to Work Institute, “thanking – showing appreciation and recognition” is one of the nine practice areas set as criteria for making it onto the annual Fortune “100 Best Places to Work” list.

In a post from The Mayo Clinic Health System, “studies have shown that feeling thankful can improve sleep, mood and immunity.”

From the online newsletter Chopra.com: “The medial prefrontal cortex is an area of the human brain linked to learning and making decisions.” MRI scans showed that “there was a surge of activity in the medial prefrontal cortex area of the brain when subjects expressed gratitude”  that was different from that in those who felt gratitude but didn’t express it.

We may have to get out of our comfort zone a little and just do it anyway. Whatever thoughts we may have that we shouldn’t be so free with our thanks, such as, “Ooh they might think I’m trying to ingratiate myself because I want something,” let’s just try to remember the benefits and let all that thankfulness out into the world.

Thanks again James Wernicke!
