Los Alamos County Parks, Recreation and Open Space Divisions have partnered up with the Pajarito Astronomers for the Dark Night program.
Anyone with an interest in star gazing and the chance to look through a telescope is invited to come out to Spirio Soccer Fields Saturday night, Oct. 7, at Overlook Park in White Rock.
Volunteers from the Pajarito Astronomers Club will be present with telescopes starting about 7:30 pm until at least 10:30 pm, and as late as midnight if there is continued interest.
Sunset is at 6:42 pm, so it will start getting dark about 7:30 pm. Saturn rises at 4:50 pm and will be visible early in the night. Jupiter rises at 8:00 pm. Numerous open and globular clusters, binary stars, nebulae, and other objects will be available for viewing.
Red flashlights are recommended for safety. This event is free and open to the public (no registration required) and will be held weather permitting– updates will be posted on our Facebook page. Please use caution and, if possible, use parking lights when approaching or leaving Spirio Fields when it is dark.
Hope to see you there!
