The 38th Annual Española Valley Arts Festival will honor its handmade history Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 23 and 24 at the Plaza de Española Convento. The festival will feature artists that will showcase their work in a wide variety of art mediums and styles including: woodwork, metal, glass, sculpture, pottery, contemporary clay, weaving, furniture, fabric art, photography, retables, bultos, tinwork, jewelry, acrylic, watercolor and oil paintings will be on display.
Art in all its forms will be featured during the free two-day family event will include food vendors lots of local live music and cultural dance performances. There will also be an Arts Kidz Zone with fun art activities for kids of all ages. Artists will be demonstrating their art medium so kids have hands on experience.
This year we are dedicating the Española Valley Arts Festival to the memory of Verna Trujillo and Ron Martinez who both passed away recently. Both were longtime members of the Española Valley Arts Festival Council and were always passionate and supportive of our local artists. Verna Trujillo was the EVAF Secretary/Treasurer and Ron Martinez a local renowned artist and member of EVAF for many years.
Kicking off the festival will be a reception announcing the Poster Winner and the category winners of the Arts Festival and will take place on Friday, Sept. 22 at the Plaza de Española Convento from 6 pm to 8pm. The public is welcome to attend.
“Española Valley Arts Festival brings together art in all its forms and of all ages,” says Española Valley Arts Festival President, Manny Martinez. “Our renowned artists will be participating as well as new artists so it’s a great time to support the entire art community. Both Verna and Ron leave the legacy of the importance of volunteering and giving of one’s self to help others specifically through our Española Valley Arts Festival. Their dedication, passion and the time they spent to help our local artists will always be remembered.”
The public is encouraged to come and vote for the Peoples Choice Award designating their favorite artist. This is a no-fee family event so bring your lawn chairs, umbrellas and sun screen and enjoy 2-days of art, dance and music.
