LOS ALAMOS MAINSTREET NEWS RELEASE
Los Alamos celebrated the County Fair and Rodeo, with a parade of 25 floats today, under the theme of ‘Harnessing Chaos.’
This year’s judges were County Councilor, Suzie Havemann, L.A. Bootery and Mesa Top Games and Toys owner, Carolyn Cowan, and Founder and CEO of UbiQD, Inc., Hunter McDaniel.
Much debate was had due to the response and effort floats took in responding to the theme. So this year the judges selected one overall winner and three honorable mentions.
First place was awarded to Los Alamos High School Marching Band. Their containment of the many instruments, flags, and musicians was a feat to behold and they pulled out all the stops during their many songs along the route.
Honorable Mentions were awarded to The Hill Stompers, Los Alamos Stable Owner’s Association, and Lemonade Living. Congratulations to the winners!
Judge Carolyn Cowan commented, “A parade is inherently chaotic but it was good to see the theme carried from the music of the live bands through to the impressive long horns and all the crowd pleasers in between.
”Councilor Havemann remarked, “We judges were impressed by the high school marching band, the largest group… they definitely set a celebratory tone for the rest of the parade!”
Havemann also wanted to give, “an enthusiastic shout-out to the high energy (and chaotic!) Shriners, they are such a crowd pleaser, I can’t imagine a parade without them!”
Los Alamos MainStreet and Creative District sincerely thank the judges as well as sponsors Enterprise Bank and Trust and Los Alamos County. Thank you to all that participated in this year’s Fair and Rodeo Parade. Yee Haw!
