Ribbon Cutting Held At Reuse Center In White Rock

COUNTY NEWS

Los Alamos County employees and members of the public gathered Wednesday morning for a ribbon-cutting at the new Reuse Center at Overlook in White Rock. The new reuse center is much bigger that the one at the Eco Station in Los Alamos. Residents can stop by and take items from the center. If residents wish to drop off items, it will count as one of the 12 free loads they are annually granted.

A way to reduce waste is reusing the items we have by sharing with others. The reuse center at
Overlook will be a much larger scale reuse area than the reuse center at the Eco Station.
Residents are free to come and take items from the Reuse area. If residents would like to leave
items at the Reuse area, it will count as one of their 12 annual loads.

Examples of items that are acceptable at the reuse area include unused or new building materials, working appliances (with all the pieces included), and other gently used or well taken care of items.

Items that will not be accepted at the reuse area include large or hazardous items such as
mattresses, household hazardous waste (paints, stains, cleaners, pesticides, etc.), clothing, or
broken items.

If residents have clothing that they would like to recycle, there is a Big Brothers Big Sisters
collection box at the Eco Station.

Residents are encouraged to come and take items from the reuse area, as well as drop off items. Having the reuse center will prevent many gently used items from being thrown into the landfill.
