“Fun and adventure was had by local Girl Scouts and their friends at the annual Twilight Camp held at Pajarito Mountain Ski Hill June 5-8. This year’s theme was Pirates, and Captain Caramel and her loyal crew helped the campers learn valuable skills for sailing the high seas including pool noodle sword fighting, navigation, weather watching, knot tying, archery and cooking.

The campers constructed boats from recycled materials and tested them to see if they would float, made their own pirate hats, slid down the ski hill on a massive cardboard slide and went on a treasure hunt for chocolate coins.

They learnt fire safety, including how to roast the perfect marshmallow, and how to build shelters, which could come in handy if they are ever stranded on a desert island. No voyage would be complete without some songs and skits, which the campers performed for their families on the last night.

If your daughter is interested in Girl Scouts, please visit nmgirlscouts.org/join or email membership manager Karen Doebling at KDoebling@nmgirlscouts.org.”
