County: Community Survey For 20th Street Redevelopment Open Until July 9

COUNTY NEWS RELEASE

Los Alamos County’s Community Development Department (CDD) encourages the public to take a community survey to provide input to the redevelopment of publicly owned parcels on 20th Street south of Trinity Drive. The survey is based on the project’s guiding principles and objectives presented at the June 21 public meeting. Surveys will be accepted online until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, July 9; visit the project webpage at lacnm.com/20thSt.

CDD is working with consultants Wilson & Company to develop high-level conceptual plans to assess the range of redevelopment scenarios for publicly owned parcels on 20th Street south of Trinity Drive. This is the first step in the implementation of the Los Alamos Master Plan which was adopted by the County Council in 2021 and recommends: redevelopment of underutilized downtown property; mixed-use and multi-family developments; pedestrian and bicycling-related improvements; urban forms and densities.

Before completing the survey, CDD urges the community to watch online videos of the presentation given at the June 21 public meeting, a guided tour of the parcels, and drone footage of the project area and surrounding properties available on the project webpage at lacnm.com/20thSt.

Then, go to lacnm.com/20thSt-Survey to take the survey,” says County Community Development Department Director Paul Andrus. “We are seeking the community’s input to help us determine the highest and best use opportunities the code will allow.”

The guiding documents for this project include the Comprehensive Plan (2016), Housing Market Needs Analysis (2019), National Community Survey Results (2022), and the Council’s Strategic Leadership Plan (2023) support the need for higher density mixed-use developments that provide opportunities for increased housing capacity, new businesses opportunities – creating economic vitality for the community. Furthermore, these studies and reports identify the importance of being good stewards of our natural environment and an inclusive and welcoming community for all.
