NNMC NEWS RELEASE
As part of a strong commitment to supporting STEM education efforts, Longenecker & Associates is increasing financial support for students at Northern New Mexico College.
L&A has increased to $15,000 its annual contribution to the Northern New Mexico College Foundation. This will fund three scholarships for students interested in a career in a field that supports L&A’s missions in Northern New Mexico at Los Alamos and Sandia national laboratories, such as project management, business and support functions. Recipients are eligible to have the scholarship extended a second year provided they continue to meet eligibility requirements. L&A will also continue to provide internship opportunities and career mentoring by senior staff or board members.
“We’re proud to help support promising students who want to pursue careers supporting the U.S. Department of Energy in important areas such national security, environmental remediation and clean energy,” L&A CEO John Longenecker said. “We have developed a great relationship with Northern New Mexico College, and we’re excited to increase our assistance to the college and the northern New Mexico region many L&A employees are proud to call home.”
“We are very grateful for Longenecker & Associates’ generous and continued support of Northern’s mission and our students,” said Northern New Mexico College President Hector Balderas. “Community champions like this are vital to providing students the opportunity to pursue their educational and career goals and putting them on the path to success.”
L&A began providing scholarship assistance at Northern New Mexico College in 2021. To date, L&A has provided four scholarships to three students, one of which has gone on to full-time employment with L&A.
“Supporting STEM education doesn’t just help students, it helps L&A as a company,” Longenecker said. “We want to help develop the next generation of leaders who we know will bring fresh ideas and perspectives to help solve some of the nation’s most critical problems.”
