Come join us at the following events and show your support for our LGBTQ+ loved ones and neighbors at these fun and diverse activities in Los Alamos.
Monday, June 12, Tie Dye Event, 3–5 p.m. at the Los Alamos Teen Center. Come join the fun and add some color to your wardrobe at this family friendly tie dye event hosted at the Los Alamos Teen Center and brought to you by the Los Alamos Family YMCA, JJAB, and the Los Alamos Arts Council. The organizers will have shirts to tie dye and assistants on hand to help you dip and dye your way to a pop of color for your summer wardrobe! The shirts are first come, first served — or you can bring your own clothing item to dye! This event is designed for anyone to participate but children under 10 will want to be accompanied by an adult to provide extra support in this creative but admittedly messy process. The event will be outdoors so don’t forget to wear your sunscreen and come wearing clothes you can make art in!
Tuesday, June 13, the Atomic Follies Cabaret will perform 6–8 p.m. at the Central Park Square in a performances appropriate for all ages. The show, whose theme is Empowerment!, will feature a multitude of songs, dances, stand-up comedy, and drag performances. Megan Pimentel says the show features “really talented performers and it will be fun. loud and exciting.” She also reminds us that people who attended the Follies’ performance last year had a really good time. The Follies will also perform June 16 as part of the Pride Festival and will conclude with an age 18+ version of the show June 18.
Wednesday , June 14, mural painting, 3:30 p.m. at the tunnel underpass for the Canyon Rim Trail eastern trailhead. From organizer Erin Cook: “This is the 2nd annual Pride Mural Paint Event in the Los Alamos Community Art Tunnel. All are welcome and encouraged to bring friends and family. All participants need to do is show up and be ready to make a fabulous rainbow hand print mane around our pride lion. All supplies will be provided: paint, brushes, and clean up station. We will start the fun at 3:30 and conclude around 5:30 so we can all meet up again for the Flag Parade around Ashley Pond at 6 p.m.”
Wednesday, June 14, Pride Flag Parade at 6 p.m. at Ashley Pond. From organizer George Marsden: “Folks will gather near the stage at 6 p.m. for an informal march around Ashley Pond while carrying flags that represent the great variety of folks in the LGBTQ+ community. Bring your own flag, or borrow one of ours as we celebrate the lives and contributions of everyone. Fly your flag proudly or carry one to support your queer friends and family. Last year, the turn out was so great that it took close to 2 minutes before all the marchers passed the stage for a second time. We would love to break that number this year as you make your voices heard!”
