Before you head off on summer vacation, remember to register for the 2023-2024 school year.
All students planning to attend any Los Alamos Public Schools site in the upcoming school year must complete the online registration process. This includes returning students, new students, kindergarten and preschool. Go to https://www.laschools.net/registration for more information and to register using either a computer or smartphone.
School sites are not able to assign students a class schedule or teacher until the registration process is completed.
LAPS uses SchoolMint Registration for this process each school year. The system is fully secure and environmentally conscientious, and allows the district to verify all student information prior to the start of the new school year. The registration system also allows for the electronic signing of all annual permission forms. The district has streamlined this process for parents this year to minimize the time it takes for parents to re-register a student.
Middle and high school students who completed course selection last spring are also required to complete registration, as this is a different process than course selection. Please make sure to select the 2023-2024 school year when registering.
Students planning to participate on a sports team at the middle school or high school must also complete the athletics registration process. Physicals must be completed after April 1.
A student who attended any LAPS school during the 2022-2023 school year will be considered a returning student for the 2023-2024 school year. This also includes out-of-district students who attended during the 2022-2023 school year, and students who were enrolled in the PreK program.
Students who just completed 6th grade moving from a LAPS elementary school to the middle school, or recent 8th grade students moving to the high school for the 2023-2024 school year are considered returning students.
Out-of-district students who wish to attend LAPS and did not attend a LAPS school during the 2022-2023 school should apply using the Open Registration Form. New students residing in Los Alamos County should also use the New Student Registration Form.
Admission to kindergarten as required by New Mexico State Statute (N.M. Stat. Ann. § 22-13-3), shall be made solely on the basis of chronological age. A child who is 5 years of age prior to 12:01 am MDT on September 1 of the school year can enter kindergarten at the beginning of that school year. Students who were part of the NM PreK program or PK4 who are enrolling in kindergarten for the 2023-2024 school year may enroll as returning students for the kindergarten enrollment.
Preschool programs are available at all five elementary schools. However, this program is not open to out-of-district students. A child who is 4 years of age prior to 12:01 am MDT on September 1, 2023 may enroll for preschool for the 2023-2024 school year.
Online Learning Options
The Los Alamos Online Learning Academy (LAOLA) is also an option for students in kindergarten through 8th grade who wish to learn in an online setting rather than in person. The Topper Virtual Academy is available for students in grades 9 through 12.
