The Los Alamos School Board met Tuesday December 13 in the School Board Room for their last regular meeting of 2022. Board members recognized Erin Green for her service on the board. This was her last meeting as a School Board member.

School Board President Melanie Colgan also recognized members of the Los Alamos High School boys and girls cross-country teams along with their coaches on their 4A State Cross Country Championships.

School Board members heard a report on activities at Los Alamos High School from Student Body President Emma Drake and Vice President Abera Hettinga. They shared that students had participated in a food drive in conjunction with LA Cares which resulted in 675 items being donated. Students also composed letters to service members, and letters of gratitude to teachers. This month, there was a spirit week before finals week, as well as a door decorating contest.

The School Board then approved a revised lease with Los Alamos Landscaping and More, LLC.

Although the lease was approved at the November 17 meeting, two revisions were necessary.

The board thanked Susan Odegard, Coordinator of Leased Facilities, for what she does behind the scenes in regards to LAPS leased properties.

Board members then selected Stifel as the underwriter for the 2023 General Obligation Bond sale following a presentation by Regina Gaysina of RBC Capital Markets. The bond sale is planned for mid-February 2023.

Kati Steinberg, principal of the Los Alamos Online Learning Academy, updated the Board on the online learning program.

“LAOLA’s success lies in its teachers’ abilities to engage learners and optimize instruction to meet students’ unique academic needs,” Steinberg stated in her presentation.

LAOLA enrolls students in kindergarten through 8th grade.
