LAPS NEWS RELEASE

The Los Alamos Public Schools Preschool program will host the first Family Night of the 2022-2023 school year at elementary schools in Los Alamos on Wednesday, November 9.

Students enrolled in Preschool programs at Aspen Elementary, Barranca Mesa Elementary and Mountain Elementary, and their families are invited to the Preschool Math and Literacy Night.  The event will run from 4:30pm until 6:00 pm. This is the first of four events to be held during the school year.

Math and Literacy Night will be held at Chamisa Elementary and Piñon Elementary later in November.

The focus of the evening is math and literacy, with activities involving counting, numerals, letter naming and phonological awareness.

“The PreK program provides students with a basic foundation for learning, including early math and literacy skills,” said Ms. Terrazas. “It also teaches young students socialization skills and enables early intervention as needed.”

The LAPS PreK program has a current enrollment of 139 four-year-olds at each elementary school. Besides Ms. Terrazas, the district PreK staff includes 13 teachers and 22 Instructional Assistants.
