Am I Too Busy For Council?

BY JAMES WERNICKE
Libertarian Candidate for
Los Alamos County Council

Am I too busy for council? After all, my current responsibilities include raising a family, working full-time, running a business, starting another, attending business classes, serving on the Personnel Board, running a youth STEAM club, and maintaining trails. I understand the concern and consider it often. If you feel that I have been too busy, I’d just like to point out that I was the only candidate that responded to John Roberts. I strive to be a candidate who does his best to reach out to you, but if you make the effort to reach out to me, I promise to at least find time to show you respect with thoughtful consideration. I also have some questions for you in response.

Do you want a councilor who is busy raising a family and engages in what’s going on with schools, activities for our families and youth, and family health care? Do you want a councilor who is busy working with students and early-career workers, and listens to what is needed to retain them? Do you want a councilor who is busy as an entrepreneur, who appreciates the challenges of running a business here, educates themselves on progressive business practices, and networks with the local business community and those who can help it grow? Do you want a councilor who is busy listening to what our County personnel are doing and need? Do you want a councilor who recognizes the need for creative outlets for youth and outdoor stewardship, and is busy volunteering their time to provide it?

What I’m trying to say is do you want a councilor who is busy preparing themselves for that role, and will presumably show the same drive in serving that role?

Sorry for the short notice, but we’re having a meet and greet tonight Wednesday October 19 from 6-8 p.m. at 135 Maple Dr. Snacks and drinks will be provided.
