Los Alamos County Council
I thank the public that has taken the time to comment on draft revisions to the County Nuisance Code. Although the period for sending comments to the Community Development Department and Dekker/Perich/Sabatini ends today, Sept. 2, public comment to Council will continue as the draft is revised and the revision version is published.
Council received a briefing from the project team on August 30 that highlighted the issues that the public had identified in the July 2022 draft. On some issues, such as making sure that routine maintenance of vehicles would be permitted and that property owners would not be responsible for maintaining the actual sidewalk (typically cement), there was consensus. On other topics, such as outdoor storage, there was not consensus.
Please continue to send comments to Council (~CountyCouncil@lacnm.us) on the draft nuisance code as it is revised. The process for considering a revised code is far from over. Once the revised draft is ready to be introduced as an ordinance, it will be published along with the agenda package. The public hearing or hearings will follow at least two weeks after introduction. The revised code could be adopted by Council, or Council could vote to make specific changes that would require another public hearing before adoption.
