County: What Does Future Energy Mean For Us?

COUNTY NEWS RELEASE

Energy generation is a hot topic these days as Renewable Portfolio Standards push the focus away from coal and toward alternative sources. To address the topic, the Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) and the Department of Public Utilities (DPU) have scheduled a free public presentation called Future Energy Options for Los Alamos.

“LAC wants to step into the future with as little environmental impact as possible while serving our customers reliably,” said DPU Deputy Utility Manager of Power Supply Jordan Garcia, who will be leading the presentation.

Earlier this year, DPU and Los Alamos National Laboratory jointly conducted an Integrated Resource Plan to help select resources that will reliably serve electrical load while still meeting renewable portfolio standards in the future. Attendees will learn about different energy resources and the IRP. They will have the opportunity to ask questions after the initial presentation.

Future Energy Options for Los Alamos will be held at the Los Alamos Nature Center (2600 Canyon Rd) and concurrently live streamed for those who prefer to attend virtually. It will be held on Sept. 1 at 7 pm. While the event is free, participants should register in advance at ladpu.com/FutureEnergy .
