Los Alamos Public Schools To Open Doors Wednesday, Aug. 10

Los Alamos Public Schools (LAPS) will open its doors for the start of the 2022-2023 school year Wednesday, Aug. 10. 

All elementary school students will have half days for the first three days of school – Wednesday, Aug. 1o

  • Wednesday Aug. 10
  • Thursday, Aug. 11
  • Friday, Aug. 12.

School starts at 8:30 a.m., and students will be dismissed at noon. Elementary students attend school 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays beginning Monday, Aug. 15. Wednesdays will continue to be half days, with students dismissed at noon.

The first day of school for PreK4 students is Thursday, Aug. 11. Students will attend school half days (8:30 a.m. to noon) Thursday and Friday and will then follow their regular schedule, attending school 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. There are no PreK4 classes Wednesdays.

The first day of school for the PreK3 morning program is 8:30-11:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 11. The first day for the PreK3 afternoon program is 8:30-11:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 12. The regular schedule for the PreK3 morning and afternoon programs will start Monday, Aug. 15. There are no PreK3 classes Wednesdays.

The school day at Los Alamos Middle School runs 8 a.m. to 2:57 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10 will follow the A Day schedule.

At Topper Freshman Academy and Los Alamos High School, the regular school day begins at 7:50 a.m. and ends at 2:35 p.m. Academic Time is available 2:45-3:10 p.m. Students will follow the A Day schedule on the first day of school.

The Los Alamos Online Learning Academy also will hold its first day of class in person at Ashley Pond Pavilion 9-11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10. Students will be given their classroom materials and Chromebooks during this time with their teachers. Parents can join for a LAOLA Parent Orientation while students are in class. Students will meet for their regular class times online 8:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Thursday and Friday.

Elementary school class lists will be posted at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9 at school sites. Students and families also will have an opportunity to meet the teachers at this time.
