COUNTY NEWS RELEASE
The Customer Care Center and other operations within the Los Alamos County Department of Public Utilities will be closed on Monday, June 20, in observance of Juneteenth.
While most DPU employees will have the day off work, electric power dispatchers and limited water production crews will work through the holiday. Standby crews will be on call for the Electric Distribution, Wastewater and Gas/Water/Sewer divisions as well as for the hydroelectric plants.
Last February, the County Council adopted a change to the County’s personnel rules to add Juneteenth and Indigenous People’s Day as observed County holidays to promote diversity, equity and inclusion. This Monday, Los Alamos County will join other federal, state and local governments and organizations to commemorate June 19, 1865, or Juneteenth, which was the day when enslaved people in Texas learned of Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation.
The DPU family is proud to share a Juneteenth video written and produced by fellow DPU employee Ricardo Lambert. It can be found at https://lacnm.com/1865 .
