Española Mayor To Hold Public Meetings To Introduce Top Two Finalists For City Manager Position

CITY OF ESPANOLA NEWS RELEASE

City of Española Mayor John Ramon Vigil has announced that he will be holding public meetings to introduce the top two finalists in the selection of a new City Manager.  Vigil began his administration on April 1, 2022, and appointed former Española Superintendent of Schools Janette Archuleta in an interim capacity.  Archuleta did not apply for the permanent position.

“Mrs. Archuleta let me know early on that she would not be interested in applying for the permanent position,” Vigil said, “but she hit the ground running with a multitude of projects and organizational management for the City as part of my transitional team, and I appreciate her agreeing to take on the interim role.”

Vigil contracted with the Mercer Group to conduct a nation-wide search for qualified applicants, and is breaking away from the past practice of former mayors by holding his hiring process up to public scrutiny.  He also increased the pay of Española’s top executive.

“I want the best person for the job.  I want the public to see how the process works, and I want the public to have a chance to be a part of it,” Vigil said.

The two finalists are Jordan Yutzy and John Craig.  Yutzy is currently City Manager of Eunice, NM, with a master’s degree in civil engineering.  Craig is the former Deputy City Manager of Rio Rancho and currently works for Mono County, California.  Both have extensive top-executive experience in local government management.  The meetings will be held on June 15 and 16 at 3:00 p.m. at the Misión y Convento in Española.  For more information call the City Clerk’s Office at (505) 747-6039.
