County Announces Public Survey On Proposed North Mesa Shared-Use Gymnasium

COUNTY NEWS RELEASE

The Los Alamos County Public Works and Community Services Departments, together with the Los Alamos Public Schools (LAPS) invite the public to participate in a survey for the proposed shared-use gymnasium project at North Mesa. Individuals are encouraged to take the survey that launched today, online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/LAC_LAPS_Gym before it closes on Friday, June 24, at midnight (12 a.m.).

Community feedback is solicited by the County and LAPS on the project that proposes development of a shared-use gymnasium located at the Los Alamos Middle School that will support County recreation programs and allow LAPS’ programmatic use during school hours. Currently, the project is in the Pre-Design and Programming or “Planning” Phase to determine the facility location, size, and related budgetary needs for construction.

The project team presented a detailed description of all three sites under consideration with a list of pros and cons at a June 1 public meeting. The presentation materials and the recorded video of the meeting are available on the Public Works Projects webpage under “North Mesa Shared-Use Gymnasium.”

The project team will present again at the Parks and Recreation Board meeting June 9 that starts at 5:30 p.m. live at Council Chambers and via Zoom

According to Public Works Project Manager Sara Rhoton, “Public input during the planning phase is important, providing the community a great opportunity to help shape the project’s direction and provides County Council and the School Board the community’s view of the project.”
