Dr. Kurt Steinhaus, New Mexico Public Education Secretary and former superintendent of Los Alamos Public schools is reducing his day-to-day workload due to health issues he is currently experiencing.
“All of us here at the PED and across the education community are grateful that he will continue his work to improve our state’s public education system for every New Mexican child,” PED Director of Communications Carolyn Graham told the Los Alamos Reporter Tuesday.
According to the Santa Fe New Mexican, Steinhaus alerted Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham Monday of his need to take time to address physical health issues he is experiencing. A spokesperson for the governor’s office told the New Mexican that the office will work to appoint a deputy secretary and that other staff will be hired as needed to ensure the day-to-day operations of PED continue successfully.
