BANDELIER NEWS RELEASE

Early Wednesday afternoon, 54-year-old Brenda Holzer from Yorkville, Ill. was killed while climbing up to the Alcove House at Bandelier National Monument.

After being struck by a falling rock, Holzer fell about 25 feet down the second of four ladders.

A crew of first responders, including Bandelier Visitor & Resource Protection Rangers and the Los Alamos Fire Department responded.

While being lowered to the ground, she became pulseless and could not be resuscitated by rescuers. Holzer was transported to Los Alamos Medical Center.

Alcove House remains closed while this incident is under investigation.
