LAFC NEWS RELEASE

Los Alamos Family Council has been serving this community for sixty years! During that time, it has been in various offices spaces in town.

Our current office location, 1350 Central Ave, Suite 102, adjacent to the Bradbury Science Museum, is just a stone’s throw away from the first office building owned by LAFC.

When LAFC first opened, it operated out of an office at the Los Alamos Medical Center. It became clear that this space was insufficient, so it relocated to an office on East Road. This space wasn’t seen as a long-term option, however, so LAFC connected with Robert Waterman to purchase a building. The building, an old barracks from Kirtland Air Force Base, was brought in 1972 to Los Alamos and placed on a foundation at 1080 15th St., land leased from The Family YMCA. The address no longer exists, the space is now occupied by the gymnasium at The Family YMCA.

It took another two and a half years to completely redo the building and to take occupancy. LAFC moved into the new office building in 1975. This started a long history with the building for LAFC.

In 1982 the building was relocated to 1505 15t St., a space that had been a vacant grass lot. The building was added on to over the next fifteen years. Los Alamos Family Council worked out of that building until 2021, when it relocated to it’s current location, Museum Parke, another Waterman property.

Los Alamos Family Council continues to serve the community of Los Alamos and the surrounding areas through our current programming, with a focus on our mission of promoting social and emotional well-being through education, prevention, and counseling.
