Join The Hunger Walk & Turkey Trot Is Sunday Afternoon

BY CYNTHIA BIDDLECOMB

This Sunday, Nov. 21, the annual Los Alamos CROP Hunger Walk and Turkey Trot will be held at 2 p.m., outside Los Alamos Middle School, on North Mesa.

Raising funds to alleviate poverty and end hunger, the Los Alamos walk/run has involved as many as 200 participants in pre-pandemic times and was held virtually last year. This event raises funds for L.A. Cares, our local food bank, and for Church World Service and its partner hunger and relief organizations.

To help support this annual Los Alamos fundraising effort, go to https://events.crophungerwalk.org/2021/event/losalamosnm. On that webpage, anyone can give monetary support (see top bar menu to DONATE) and register to walk or run the course.

On Sunday, the registration area in the front parking lot will open at 1:00 p.m. Participants can sign in anytime between then and the 2:00 p.m. start of the run/walk. Walkers and runners are asked to bring monetary donations to the cause and to be ready to sign a liability waiver. T-shirts from past years’ events will be available, gratis to participants.

At the end of the course, there will be water and individually wrapped snacks, plus a drawing for a turkey or pumpkin pie. Rest rooms in the building will be accessible; otherwise, this year’s event will be totally outside, starting and ending in the LAMS parking lot, on North Mesa.
