Pedestrian Reva Heron of White Rock was seriously injured in the incident. She was transported to Los Alamos Medical Center and later to UNM Hospital in Albuquerque where sadly she succumbed to her injuries on September 23.
The driver of the vehicle, Anna Niamh Short is scheduled to appear before Magistrate Court Judge Pat Casados on Oct. 19 on the two charges.
According to the LAPD incident report, “driver distracted by other activity” was listed as an apparent contributing factor. The report indicates that Short was driving on Piedra at around 6:50 p.m. and told officers the sun started shining directly into her eyes. She said she was going under 20 mph and was adjusting her visor so that she could see the roadway better, when a pedestrian she could not see collided with her car. She immediately stopped and called 911.
Members of the community have been contacting the Los Alamos Reporter to express their sadness at Reva Heron’s death and the surrounding circumstances.
