Los Alamos County Councilors meeting in regular session Tuesday evening proclaimed Octover 2021 “Arts & Culture Month” in Los Alamos County. The proclamation, accepted by Laura Canuelas-Torres, Program Director of the Los Alamos Arts Council (LAAC) and Marlane Hamilton-Interim Executive Director LAAC, and read by Councilor David Izraelevitz, reads as follows:
WHEREAS: The month of October has been recognized as National Arts and Humanities Month by thousands of arts and cultural organizations and communities across the country for over 35 years; and
WHEREAS: The arts and humanities enhance and enrich the lives of every American by playing a unique role in our families, our community, and our country; and
WHEREAS: Our local arts and cultural organizations are a vital part of recreation, education, and enjoyment in Los Alamos, enhancing our quality of life and strengthening our economy; and
WHEREAS: Our thriving artistic and cultural community members have many activities planned during the month of October;
NOW, THEREFORE, on behalf of the Council of the Incorporated County of Los Alamos, I do hereby proclaim the Month of October as “ARTS & CULTURE MONTH” AND FURTHERMORE, declare the evening of Friday, October 22, 2021, as “AN EVENING OF ARTS & CULTURE” in Los Alamos County and ask our citizens to support the outstanding programs and events these organizations bring to our community.
