Los Alamos High School senior Kelly Wetteland and sophomore Anna Wetteland, who recently moved here from Maryville, Tennessee, were named High School All-America in July by the National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association (NISCA) for their performances at the TISCA Tennessee state high school swim meet held April 24-25 in Knoxville.

Kelly finished second at the meet in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.14) to earn All-America status.

The Wetteland sisters teamed up to help Maryville High splash to second in both the 200 medley relay (1:44.41) and 400 free relay (3:27.59) at the Tennessee state HS championships.   Both of these relays also made the elite All-America list.

The Maryville HS girls squad finished second in the team standings behind perennial Volunteer state powerhouse Baylor, but ahead of Nashville’s storied Harpeth Hall.   Baylor scored 324 points, with Maryville at 255, and Harpeth Hall at 212.

The Maryville team was coached by Jenna Johnson, an Olympic gold medalist for USA in 1984.
Less than one percent of the more than 300,000 swimmers and divers participating in high school swimming earn All-America honors in any given year.  NISCA compiles the list of All-America athletes, based on submissions by high school coaches.

Kelly Wetteland is being recruited by Arizona, Naval Academy, and UC-Santa Barbara.

Kelly and Anna are the daughters of Chris and Jenny Wetteland of Los Alamos.  Chris works at LANL and played intercollegiate water polo at Slippery Rock; Jenny works in the medical field.
