LOS ALAMOS HISTORY MUSEUM NEWS
Is your elementary school child hungry for history? Get cooking this week as History Adventures explores food in history! The Los Alamos History Museum is sharing fun, hands-on activities and adventures every week this month with History Adventures at http://www.LosAlamosHistory.org/Childrens_Programs.
The History Museum’s victory garden is growing—get outside for an adventure in the garden to explore what a victory garden was and how people grew food here in the past. Your child will explore how farming and gardening in Los Alamos has changed over hundreds of years and be challenged to take some up-close photos showing how our gardens today might have some things in common with the farms of the past. Get creative in the kitchen and cook up some history as you share a family recipe! Food is such an important part of so many memories, which means it’s an important part of history. Everything you need to get started is in the free History Adventures pdf activity packet.
This is the last History Adventures theme for this summer, but if you missed any of the past activities, all five themes are available now on our website and will be there all summer. Every theme has an outdoor adventure, a hands-on activity that lets kids make history, and a photo challenge to spark kids’ creativity. We’d love to see the connections you make with history—share photos from your family’s History Adventures and tag us @LosAlamosHistory on Facebook or Instagram.
